Fifth Master’s Thesis Defense at the Faculty of Earth Sciences

Under the generous patronage of Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan, University President, and supervision of Prof. Dr. Tarek Ali, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Abdel-Gaid, Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Prof. Dr. Essam Abdel-Rahman, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fathy Abu El-Soud, Head of the Department of Water and Environmental Geology, the fifth master’s thesis at the Faculty of Earth Sciences and the third in the Department of Water and Environmental Geology was discussed today, Thursday, August 1, 2024.

The researcher, Menna Allah Abdel-Ghaffar Khalif, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Water and Environmental Geology, presented her thesis titled: *Sustainability of Non-Conventional Water Resources Using Catalytic Oxidation of Wastewater*.

The thesis supervision was provided by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fathy Abu El-Soud, Head of the Department of Water and Environmental Geology, and Prof. Dr. Abdel-Latif Hesham, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.

The examining committee consisted of:

* Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fathy Abu El-Soud, Head of the Department of Water and Environmental Geology
* Prof. Dr. Sayed Abdel-Qader, Former Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Former President of the Technological University
* Prof. Dr. Mohamed Bakr, Professor of Water at the National Research Center

The thesis addressed the different water resources in Egypt and methods to maximize their utilization and sustainability through an integrated system based on catalytic oxidation of wastewater using nanometric titanium oxide extracted from natural alunite ore, as well as iron compounds used in primary and tertiary wastewater treatment, in addition to biological treatment using environmentally friendly strains.

The defense was attended by a group of faculty members, assistant staff, and administrative personnel. Congratulations to the researcher.
